Christmas Bird Count 12/30/2023

Trigger Warning: The society that established this event in 1900 does not meet BIPoC + Pride Outdoors standards for inclusion. We have decided to contribute to the community science aspect of this event to promote our own inclusion and push back against the denial of representation. This event "is an early-winter bird census, where thousands of volunteers across the U.S., Canada, and many countries in the Western Hemisphere go out over a 24-hour period on one calendar day to count birds." - LINK

We have be asked to join an experienced birder in covering Area 8 WEST, roughly the area between Valley Creek and Tumwater Creek. We will be driving between walking trails.

REQUIREMENTS & REQUESTS:

Binoculars would be extremely helpful but not required, the group has a collection of 3 pairs of binoculars and one scope. If you can't make the event but have a pair of binoculars we could borrow please contact Anna @ BIPoC + Pride Outdoors.

Time-frame - this is a long event. Please come prepared with warm clothes that can keep you dry as well as sturdy shoes you can walk up to 2 miles in. Participating in the event from a vehicle is an option, walking is NOT REQUIRED.
